What We Do
Heat Treating Services
Precision hardening for high-speed steel cutting tools and specialty steel components. We deliver consistent results to exact Rockwell hardness specifications.
Our Process
Receive & Inspect
Tools arrive, are weighed, ticketed, and inspected for pre-existing damage before treatment begins.
Furnace Loading
Tools are loaded into the appropriate furnace based on size. We maintain multiple furnaces sized to handle the full range of tool lengths we work with.
Heat Treatment
Tools are brought to precise temperatures. High-speed steels require significantly higher temps than standard tool steels.
Rockwell Testing
Every tool is tested against the customer's specified hardness range using calibrated Rockwell hardness testing equipment.
Straightening
Heat treating can cause slight distortion. Our straightening area corrects this using presses and flattening benches.
Blast & Finish
Surface scale removed via shot blast or vapor blast for a finer finish.
Final Inspection
Final hardness verified and shank condition inspected before packing and shipping.
Pack & Ship
Shipped via UPS or freight nationwide. Metro Detroit customers can use our local pickup and delivery service.
Certification
Every certified job gets a complete record: temps, quench method, number of draws, and final Rockwell reading.
Primary Specialty
Broach Hardening
Broaches are multi-tooth linear cutting tools used to machine complex shapes (keyways, splines, round holes, flat surfaces) in a single pass. They are among the most expensive and precision-sensitive cutting tools in manufacturing.
We are specialists in broach heat treating, serving the densest concentration of broach users in the country, in metro Detroit's manufacturing corridor.
We run multiple furnaces sized across a range of depths, and we are one of fewer than 5 companies in the USA that can vertically harden a broach up to 85 inches in length.

Steel Grades
Materials We Treat
We specialize in high-speed steels requiring extreme temperatures; grades most general heat treaters are not equipped to process.
| Grade | Type | Working HRC | Common Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| M-2 | High-Speed Steel | 63–65 | General-purpose broaches, the most common HSS grade |
| M-3 | High-Speed Steel | 63–65 | Higher vanadium than M-2 for improved wear resistance |
| M-7 | High-Speed Steel | 63–65 | General-purpose HSS with good toughness |
| M4 / PM-M4 | Powder Metal HSS | 64–66 | Wear-resistant broaches, form tools, and hobs |
| M-42 | Cobalt HSS | 66–68 | Aerospace and difficult-to-machine materials |
| M-48 | Cobalt HSS | 67–69 | High-performance tooling with extreme hot hardness |
| T-15 / PMT-15 | Cobalt-Tungsten HSS | 64–68 | Highest-performance HSS tooling |
| REX 45 | Powder Metal HSS | 66–68 | High wear resistance with good toughness |
| REX 76 | Powder Metal HSS | 67–69 | Extreme wear and red hardness applications |
| ASP's | Powder Metal HSS | Per spec | ASP powder metal high-speed steel grades |
| S-790 | Powder Metal HSS | Per spec | High-vanadium powder metal grade |
| Vanadis 23 | Cold Work PM Steel | Per spec | High wear resistance cold work tooling |
| Vanadis 30 | Cold Work PM Steel | Per spec | Extreme wear resistance for cold work applications |
| 6150 / 8620 | Alloy Steel | Per spec | Lower-hardness tooling and structural steel components |
